Accessibility Statement

The Menschen für Menschen Foundation is committed to designing its website accessible in accordance with the requirements of the Act on the Promotion of Accessibility (BFSG) and the Ordinance on the Act on the Promotion of Accessibility (BFSGV). The BFSG transposes Directive (EU) 2019/882 of the European Parliament and of the Council on accessibility requirements for products and services into German law.

The applicable technical standard is WCAG 2.1 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, Version 2.1), which contains the internationally recognized guidelines for accessible web content from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).

This accessibility information applies to the website “https://en.menschenfuermenschen.de/”.

1. General Description of the Service

Through the website “https://en.menschenfuermenschen.de/”, the Menschen für Menschen Foundation offers the following services to consumers: It provides information about the organization’s projects and activities in Ethiopia and enables users to support them financially or through volunteer work. The content focuses on various initiatives in areas such as agriculture, water, education, health, and income generation.

2. Compliance with Accessibility Requirements

The Menschen für Menschen Foundation endeavors to provide its digital services in accordance with the accessibility requirements of the BFSG and the BFSGV Regulation. The website has been tested both automatically and manually for WCAG 2.1, Conformity Levels A and AA. It largely meets these requirements.

Specifically, the following accessibility features have been implemented:

Skip-navigation links allow users to skip recurring content blocks. ARIA landmark roles are correctly implemented. All images, icons, and graphics have meaningful alternative text. The entire website can be operated using a keyboard; there are no keyboard traps. Text can be enlarged up to 200% without losing any information. Content is accessible in both portrait and landscape format. Color is not used as the sole means of conveying information. Pop-up content such as tooltips and dropdowns is collapsible, hoverable, and designed to be persistent. Page titles are descriptive, and the focus order is logically structured. The HTML markup is valid and well-formed. The page’s language is declared in the HTML document. In addition, an accessibility widget has been integrated to offer users with visual and cognitive impairments additional customization options; however, it does not replace native accessibility in the source code and is used solely as a supplementary convenience feature.

3. Known Accessibility Limitations

The following areas do not yet fully comply with the requirements of WCAG 2.1:

The form fields for first name, last name, and email address in the newsletter form do not yet have autocomplete attributes. News links currently use generic link text such as “Read more” without distinguishing the context; an adjustment is planned. Some foreign-language elements have not yet been marked with the corresponding language attribute; this requires an adjustment in the content management system. Status changes cannot yet be detected programmatically in all areas without shifting the focus; this applies in particular to the donation forms and the shop.

In addition, five items have been identified for which implementation is recommended but not considered mandatory, including captions for recorded videos, audio descriptions, and measures to prevent errors in legally or financially relevant data entries.

4. Guidelines for Accessible Use

The website supports common assistive technologies, including screen readers, magnification software, and voice input. Full keyboard navigation is available. Font size and display can be adjusted via the browser settings to suit individual needs. In addition, the integrated accessibility widget offers users with visual and cognitive impairments further customization options, such as adjustments to font size, contrast, and display.
