Bavarian State Chancellery
Development cooperation of Bavaria
The Bavarian State Chancellery has been funding various of our projects in Ethiopia since 2019 as part of the Bavarian Africa Package. These range from the promotion of coffee cooperatives to reduce youth unemployment in Dano, to emergency aid measures during the COVID pandemic, to the construction of schools and the equipping of healthcare facilities in the Amhara and Afar regions. In addition, an extensive reforestation project was realised in Borena to protect the environment and climate.

In addition, six dry toilet units and three water tanks with hand washing facilities will be built.

The pilot project ‘Ethiopian skilled workers for the Bavarian labour market’ combines the surplus of qualified young skilled workers in Ethiopia with the shortage of skilled workers that Bavarian companies are experiencing. We will identify at least 25 Ethiopian skilled workers in the fields of electrical, automotive and manufacturing engineering at our Agro Technical and Technology College (ATTC) and prepare them for the German labour market in the newly established ‘German-Bavarian Skills Hub at ATTC’ within just under two years and place them in various Bavarian companies with a shortage of skilled workers.

Duration: 15.10.2024 until 31.10.2025
The project ‘Promotion of vocational training at TVET in Bure, Oromia’ aims to equip a newly built training centre (Technical Vocational Education and Training Centre, TVET) in Bure with modern equipment. Every year, 600 young people, particularly women, will be able to start training in the fields of automotive mechanics, electrical engineering, production engineering and woodworking. The aim of the project is to reduce youth unemployment, promote economic development in the region and offer young people better career prospects. The Bavarian State Chancellery is supporting the procurement and installation of the necessary equipment.
